Polyurethane
Chemical Name:
Urethane, Polyurethane
Common Names: PU
ASTM D1418: AU
ASTM D2000 / SAE J200: BG
ISO/DIN 1629: AU
PU is commonly used in applications requiring
excellent abrasion resistance and tensile strength.
Systems subjected to high pressure and repeated shock
loads can take advantage of these inherent properties of
urethane.
Polyurethanes have the following properties:
— high mechanical strength
— good wear resistance
— modulus of elasticity variable over a wide range
— good flexibility
— wide hardness range with good elasticity, (polyurethane
closes the gap between stretchable
soft-rubber types and brittle plastics)
— very good ozone and oxidation resistance
Temperature range
-30°C ~ 80°C / -22°F ~ 176°F
Good resistance in
Mineral oils and greases, water, water-oil mixtures, aliphatic hydro- carbons.
Not resistance in
Polar solvents, chlorinated hydro-carbons, aromatics, brake fluids with glycol ether base, acids and alkalis.
